Middle Temple Law Library

This library is located in Middle Temple church which specializes in U.S. law and E.U. law. Much of the U.S. law was developed and formed by British law when we broke away all those years ago. We used law we know as a base to develop and build our own legislation. This library was founded in 1641 but did not open till 1680. It is also home to one of the earliest celestial and terrestrial globes. In order to be able to access the library, you have to practice law and have already obtained your degree. This is a library for barristers and Judges, not open to students or the public. Potentially, however, they may be starting to help with student preparations for the Bar. There are over 50,000 titles available with 800,000 volumes. Many of the books are updated yearly, but the library keeps all old volumes in order to see the changes over the years. These old volumes help when researching about law during different generations.

After visiting the Library we were taken into the kitchen/dinning room. Each year middle temple chooses a new reader, and that reader gets their coat of arms added to the wall in the great dining room. This rooms was also used for plays and musical nights; there are still performances done today.
